PADI Instructor Examination
The PADI instructor examination is an objective evaluation conducted by Instructor Examiners from PADI Asia Pacific. All exams are standardised around the world and are conducted independently of dive centres and resorts. Only PADI Instructor Examiners are involved. In the Cook Islands, Dive Rarotonga often get involved with the logistics and provide the transportation necessary for carrying your equipment and cylinders to and from the examination areas. In the past our boat has also been used for the open water dives, with the theory sessions taking place at one of the hotel conference facilities on the island.
Instructor candidates must successfully complete the following skills plus exams:
The PADI instructor exam takes two days
Classroom work:
- 5-part theory exam on physics, physiology, equipment, dive skills & environment and the RDP (multiple choice - 12 questions on each topic)
- PADI standards exam (multiple choice, open book, 50 questions)
- Perform 1 knowledge development prescriptive teaching presentation
Pool
- Complete a five skill circuit as required by the examiners at demonstration quality
- Complete a confined water teaching presentation
Open Water
- Complete a demonstration quality unconscious diver rescue at the surface
- Perform an open water teaching presentation with two skills combined
Prerequisites
- Successful completion of a PADI IDC, OWSI or Status Update
