How long is the course? The course is 4 days long. This usually consists of 2 full days (8am to 4pm) and 2 half days (morning or afternoon). I've seen 3 day courses advertised - why is yours 4 days? After years of experience teaching, Kat and Ed have learned that it is best to ensure the full comfort of those participating in the Open Water course before diving into the ocean. Structuring the course over 4 days gives us more time to go over anything you might not feel 100% confident about. We believe that your enjoyment and safety on the course is paramount and we thoroughly believe this is best way to ensure that. Why do you only take 4 students per Instructor? At Dive Rarotonga we have made a commitment to provide the best possible learning environment for you. This means that we restrict the number of students we take per Instructor so that you get the best attention, and you don't spend all your time underwater watching other students complete skills - you can dive instead! What is included in the price?Unlike most Open Water courses you will come across on your travels, we include everything you need to complete the course - there are no hidden costs! You will get your own PADI Open Water manual, complete with a waterproof copy of the diving tables, certification costs paid, photo, your own log book, all your dives and your equipment hire. Do I have to have the manual - I'm travelling and I don't want any more weight !? Yes, It is a PADI standard that for all courses as from the 1st January 2006 that you must own a copy of the manual. We provide this as part of your Open Water course. If you are bothered about the extra weight, no problem, we can supply the manual on CD-Rom at no extra charge. What will I learn? You will usually spend 2 half days learning the theory of diving - don't worry, this will be made as fun as possible through the use of multimedia such as DVDs. The other half of those days will be spent getting you used to diving in the pools, and learning a few basic scuba skills. Once you are happy, and we are happy, we will take you out for the first of your 4 Open Water dives. The theory and the practical sessions are structured by PADI who enforce standards that all PADI centres and instructors have to follow on course content and methods, for full details click here. What advantage is there having an on-site pool? Often the lagoon is not suitable for teaching the initial skills of diving and does not provide the 'pool like' conditions stipulated by PADI in terms of visibility, depth, surge, current etc. Also, it is not possible to teach the deep water entry correctly in a lagoon. Our 3m deep specially designed Scuba training pool is on-site so that you can spend maximum time getting wet and correctly practicing your diving skills. If you need more time - no problem! It's easy to dip straight back in and have another go! What happens if I don't complete the course? If, for any reason, you don't manage to complete the course, all is not lost! We can sign you off for all the parts of the course that you have successfully completed, and you can continue your Open Water course elsewhere. And we will only charge you for what you have done! | |||
