What is so important about manning a boat?
Let me answer that question with 2 more questions.....how would you feel if you came up from a dive to find the boat had broken anchor and was heading for the reef? What about if you came up away from the boat with a problem? This is why most countries have laws that make sure that all commercial diving vessels must have an appropriately qualified person on board during all diving activities. Unfortunately, this is not law in the Cook Islands, but we still believe that it is an important requirement. After all, there is only one reason why you WOULDN'T man a boat..... Safety aside, it certainly makes kitting up before a dive and getting out after a dive less stressful!

Why do you advertise that you don't pay commission?Turtle
We don't pay commission to hoteliers in exchange for their recommendation of our dive centre because we believe that you have the right to know that, if you are sent to us, it is because we can best cater to your needs. At Dive Rarotonga we pride ourselves on our quality equipment and service, and we feel confident that you will be impressed too.

What is a PADI 5* IDC?
Dive Rarotonga is the highest rated PADI Dive Centre in the Cook Islands. We have won awards for our education standards, community involvement, and environmental commitment. In addition to this, we are the first dive centre to offer tuition right up to PADI Instructor level and to bring PADI here to Rarotonga to run Instructor Examinations.

Why is it important to have oxygen on board the boat?
Because, in the unlikely event of a diving incident, research shows that a oxygen must be given QUICKLY - usually within 2 minutes - in order to have best effect.

Why do I have to own all the PADI materials for each course?
Through years of teaching experience, certifying the highest number of students in the world, PADI have designed their materials to provide the best learning opportunities for everyone.  However, it has come to their attention that, in order to save money, some Dive Centres have not been providing their students with a take-away copy of the materials for reference at a later date.  This is all about to change.....  From the 1st January 2006, it will be a requirement to have your own copy of the materials for each course and, if you are tempted by a cheaper option, beware!  You may find yourself having to buy in retrospect when starting a new course......

Do I have to have the manuals, I'm travelling and I don't want any more weight !?
Yes, It is a PADI standard that for all courses as from the 1st January 2006 that you must own a copy of the manual. For the Open Water, Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses we can supply the manual on CD-Rom instead of a paperback, not as heavy or bulky so you'll still have space for your socks!!
