Information on the Cook Islands - Entertainment

There is plenty of nightlife on the island, the most memorable of which is one of the spectacular Island Nights staged in the many local hotels and bars. These usually include a huge buffet of local foods and a vibrant, colourful show of traditional Cook Island dancing and reputedly some of the best drumming in the world.

Apart from Island Nights, there are many lively nightspots in the main town of Avarua, including the RSA, Banana Court, Staircase and infamous Trader Jacks. Or, for a more relaxed drink and a snack, try Whatever Bar with its great views over the lagoon and town, or watch a breathtaking sunset with a cocktail at the Crown Beach Resort.

Tumunu bar and restaurant is a great local secret - there's a regular darts match every Tuesday and anyone can join in so no excuses! You can spend hours looking at the various memorabilia (not for the faint-hearted!) on the walls, and talking to the eccentric Welsh landlord Eric!

There are plenty of eateries to choose from on the island, catering for everybody’s tastes. Here are just a few options...

Cafés

Saltwater Café
and Fruits of Rarotonga are great little beachside cafes on the southern side of the island with excellent snorkelling just over the road. Both offer a range of snacks and drinks, and the Saltwater Café is even open in the evenings for meals.

In town, The Café do superb breakfasts and lunches, and Café Salsa have an extensive menu with choices from pizza to fish. They are also open in the evenings.

The Kikau Hut in Arorangi is a popular place for those who wish to kick back, relax and enjoy the taste of real home cooking. Kathie, one of the owners, will always be there with a welcoming smile and a lot of sass! - Phone: 26860

The Windjammer Restaurant (right next door to Dive Rarotonga) is great for fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere, serving world class Pacific/European cuisine.

Waterline is a fabulous place right on the beach. Run by Chris and Akisi, the small, intimate setting of this restaurant is one of the best places to watch the sun go down! - Phone: 22 161 beachbar@waterline.co.ck
